GARGOYLES
Gargoyles are primal beings, and some say the original shifters. They cannot do magic beyond the obvious magical way in which they shift forms. It is generally agreed, however, that like the Fae they are among the oldest Species on Earth. Gargoyles are not Immortal beings, but age slowly up until full maturity that would have the look of between 40-50 years of age. They go through infancy at a human pace, however from age 3 on they age 10x slower physically, but age quickly mentally.
Gargoyles have three forms they can shift between, being full Humanoid, Gargoyle and Stone Gargoyle. They are innately strong, with their muscle and bone structure making them incredibly hard to kill even as humans. As Gargoyles their skin also becomes incredibly tough and they gain bat like wings. Some Gargoyle even take on gargoyle animal-like forms, like Gargoyle Dogs, and are known as trackers. As Stone Gargoyles they are fully stationary and cannot move, but their stone forms are indestructible. If seriously injured, they shift into this form to gradually heal. It is a slow process taking weeks to months. Normally, they heal only slightly faster than humans.
They are a Matriarchal Species, living under the rule of one Queen, an Alpha Female, with children taking on their bear’s surname rather than the fathers. Their society is also more progressive in some instances, while in others just as restrictive.
Female Betas and Omegas are special members of their society, and treated well. However they are also overly protected and allowed few freedoms outside of the Gargoyle controlled Carpathian Mountains. While allowed to choose their own mates, they are restricted to light duties and are never allowed combat experience or to do any job that would endanger them.
